Prof. Amit Bhadury wrote "In India with so many poor people on the verge of subsistence level, we always need to be especially sensitive to the distributional implications of the growth process." There is almost a consensus among development economists that growth does not mean development. We believe, if poverty, inequality and deprivation increase then the process of ‘economic progress’ with positive growth rate would not be termed as development.
